This center started operations on Feb. 18, 1985 as the West Central Iowa SBDC and was hosted locally by SIMPCO. In FY1987 the office changed host institutions to the Western Iowa Tech Community College and moved into college facilities. The center was closed temporarily in April 2004 due to the resignation of the regional director and statewide budget cuts. The center reopened in August 2007 with renewed funding and a new director. The Iowa Small Business Development Center at Western Iowa Tech Community College is located in Room A233 in the college’s Sioux City campus. The center is one of 16 regional business assistance centers statewide and serves small business needs in Cherokee, Crawford, Ida, Monona, Plymouth and Woodbury counties. Along with free one-on-one business counseling, the center offers other practical business services, including market research services and a variety of business education classes.
