In 1987 Tracy Fuller started “Happy Occasions” to celebrate life events. From births to weddings, this small company was there to decorate for the occasion. As clients requested more sophisticated and encompassing services, it expanded to meet requested needs. Eventually, the company’s focus changed to corporate clients and started providing décor for trade shows, award ceremonies and theme parties. The small company soon evolved enough that a name change was needed, and in 2002 Innovativevents, Inc. was created.
This small event consulting and destination management company is now known nationally and internationally in social and corporate markets. Thirty years of combined expertise allows President Tracy Fuller and her employees to create the desired mood, evoke the desired emotions, and leave a long-lasting impression on party attendees.
Because of recent growth, Fuller needed to hire more people and take a national approach to the growth and expansion of services, while still servicing local clients. “We turned to the SBDC for help in determining our new goals, including a new business plan, financial goals and projections, and expansion opportunities. We look forward to continuing our research and advertising development with Sherry Shafer and Greg Saboe at the Mid Iowa SBDC. They have been a tremendous help in the development of our business plan,” Fuller says. “We have also worked with Dawn Lull, our financial advisor from the SBDC. Her projections and insight have really helped us to see where and how to expand without overextending and growing too fast.”
The company’s list of services continues to expand as relationships with vendors of complementary services are developed. Services now include event production, theme parties, production design, travel logistics, speaker/talent relationship management, facility negotiations, creative and meeting module development, opening ceremonies, graphic design and many more support services for special events and event production.
“One of my favorite events was the time we lowered the dessert tables down from the ceiling as guests were entering the after-concert area for the party. The curtains parted with lightning and thunder, the lightning swirled around the room, and the tables began to descend from the ceiling as guests were greeted with the high energy of a popular 70s dance band. The reactions from the guests were wonderful. This is why I do what I do—the WOW effect,” says Fuller.
Tracy has been fortunate to work with some great people in the industry. She’s worked with several celebrities and incredibly talented creative producers from Iowa who are known world wide. Her business continues to expand and has recently moved into a new warehouse in Carlisle, which was Phase Two of the business plan that the SBDC helped create.
Fuller adds, “We look forward to working with the Mid Iowa SBDC for continued growth and expansion.”
