   WESTERN IOWA TECH SBDC - SIOUX CITY

 About the WIT SBDC
Reopened in August 2007, the Western Iowa Tech Small Business Development Center is hosted by Western Iowa Tech Community College and located in Room A233 in the college’s Sioux City campus. The WIT center is one of 15 regional business assistance centers statewide. Along with free one-on-one business counseling, the center offers other practical business services, including market research services and a variety of business education classes.
 
The Western Iowa Tech Small Business Development Center serves small business needs in Cherokee, Crawford, Ida, Monona, Plymouth and Woodbury counties.

Deadline Extension Announced for Emergency Unemployment Insurance Benefits

The Iowa Workforce Development has begun to reactivate approximately 16,000 Iowans who may be eligible for additional Emergency Unemployment Compensation benefits since a deadline extension was passed by Congress.

Consumer Reports Index Reports Economy Improving…Slowly

The economy is improving this month, according to the Consumer Reports Index for July. Job creation increased to 51.1, its highest level since April 2009. The report showed that 7.8 percent of Americans started a new job versus 5.7 percent who lost their job.

Minority Business Ownership More Than Double the National Rate

According to the Census Bureau, the number of minority-owned businesses increased by 45.6 percent between 2002 and 2007, more than double the national average of 18.0 percent for all U.S. businesses. The number of women-owned businesses also surpassed the national average with a 20.1 percent increase.
