Employers in Iowa expect to hire at a solid pace during the third quarter of 2010, according to the Manpower Employment Outlook Survey. Among survey participants, the employment outlook for Iowa is the third best in the nation.
"From July to September, 25 percent of the companies interviewed plan to hire more employees, while 6 percent expect to reduce their payrolls. Another 66 percent expect to maintain their current staff levels and 3 percent are not certain of their hiring plans, according to the report.
Manpower no longer issues specific reports for the Cedar Rapids and Iowa City areas.
For the coming quarter, job prospects appear best in construction, durable and nondurable goods manufacturing, transportation and utilities, wholesale and retail trade, information, financial activities, professional and business services, leisure and hospitality and other services.
Employers in education and health services and government plan to reduce staffing levels.
Of the 18,000 United States employers surveyed, 18 percent expect to increase their staff levels during the third quarter, while 8 percent expect to reduce their payrolls. Seventy percent expect no change in hiring, and 4 percent are undecided about their third quarter plans.
